Well, Thanks to everyone who put in advice. In the end, Loran's story about a Kensington trackball reminded me that I had one for my laptop. I plugged it in as a PS/2 and Voila! it worked. I don't pretend to know why, but I am not complaining. Now all I have to do is get the penguin to look through my cable modem. Thanks again,
